A LIFETIME OF LACROSSE
Trevor Tierney grew up with Hall of Fame Lacrosse Coach, Bill Tierney as his father and was constantly involved in the game from a young age. At five years old, he started playing youth lacrosse and quickly learned that he wanted to be a goalie. Every day after school, he would go to his father's team practices to watch and play the game he loved. His athletic dream as a child was to play for his father at Princeton University, win a NCAA National Championship and be a great lacrosse player, himself.
Those dreams ended up panning out for Trevor with a lot of hard work and determination. He is the only goalie in the history of the game to have won an NCAA Championship, an ILF World Championship, and an MLL Championship. Trevor was a two-time All-American at Princeton University, where he won two NCAA Div I National Championships. Trevor then went on to be named All-World Goalie in the 2002 ILF World Championships in Perth, Australia. In 2005, Trevor also won a MLL Championship with the Baltimore Bayhawks. Trevor finished his playing career in 2007 after playing two seasons with the Denver Outlaws and being named to his fourth MLL All-Star game. In 2012, he was inducted into the New Jersey Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Trevor currently is a volunteer assistant coach who works with the goalies and defense at the University of Denver, an elite level team in NCAA Division I lacrosse.
However, these accomplishments are only a small part of Trevor's story. Trevor has always been interested in psychology and personal development and received is B.A. from Princeton in Psychology. His senior thesis at Princeton was entitled, "Playing In The Zone : The Psychological Aspects Of Peak Performance In Sports". In his early twenties, Trevor realized that the identity he had formed around being an elite level athlete had run it's course and that he wanted to learn more about himself, the world and life. Through spiritual and personal development, Trevor found that he also enjoyed other things in the world and his life became a lot more fulfilling. Trevor enjoys art and design and learned to become a graphic designer through interning with a small design firm. He also has a daily yoga practice and became a certified yoga instructor in 2008. Finally, Trevor loves nature and the wilderness of Colorado and spends much of his free time in the summer hiking or camping and is an avid snowboarder in the winter.
Through exploring the world, growing personally and receiving inspiration from others, Trevor realized that it was important to bring a more "soul-centered" approach back to the game, rather than the ego-centered, ultra-competitive message that is promoted throughout all sports. His goal is to help players reestablish their joy of the game and realize some important lessons about themselves, others and the world through playing the sport. He knows that accomplishments are short-lived, but the lessons learned on the path in striving to be your best at a chosen sport or skill, are eternal.
